asked the Taoiseach if, in view of Ireland's proposed intention to gain admission to the European Economic Community, he will say how the Irish unemployment rate compares with that of each of the six member nations of the EEC.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing persons out of work as a percentage of the total civilian labour force in 1968 in the countries of the European Economic Community and in Ireland. The systems under which unemployment statistics are compiled and the definitions involved vary from country to country so that the figures in the statement should be regarded as only broadly comparable.

Following is the statement:
