I have seen the report recently published in Britain of a joint committee on the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.
I asked my food advisory committee in September last to consider, as a matter of priority, the dangers to the public health arising from antibiotic residues in food. When I receive the committee's report I shall decide— after consultation with the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries—what steps are necessary in the public health interest.
