Vol. 243 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Housing.

7.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the need for the provision of additional housing in the urban district of Clonakilty, County Cork; whether he has been asked by the Clonakilty Urban District Council to confirm a compulsory purchase order for 2½ acres of land at Tawnies Lower, Clonakilty; and if he has yet approved the order or will approve of it soon.

The net need estimated by the urban district council for new local authority houses in Clonakilty for the four year period ending on 31st March, 1971, was 33. Work on a scheme of eight houses is at present in progress. The compulsory purchase order, which I confirmed on 17th ultimo, includes not only the site referred to by the Deputy but also a second site of over six acres. This will make land for approximately 70 local authority and private houses available to the council.
