Vol. 243 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

63.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when the townland of Gleninchiquin in the parish of Tuosist, County Kerry will be supplied with electricity; and the ESB's priority list for Kerry giving the year in each case.

I am informed by the ESB that the Tuosist rural area, which includes the townland of Gleninchiquin, is the last area in County Kerry scheduled for recanvass under the rural electrification planned post development scheme. The following are the rural areas in County Kerry in which work has to be carried out under the planned post development scheme: Glenbeigh, Killorglin, Ballydavid, Ballyferriter, Kilgarvan, Templenoe, Sneem, Waterville, Caherdaniel and Tuosist.

The board hope to carry out construction in the order mentioned above but it it not possible at this stage to say when the areas will be reached. The board have not been able to make the progress hoped for with the post development scheme in County Kerry because of the demand on available resources to meet priority connections and system improvement to maintain an adequate supply to those already connected.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the moneys expended by his Department on rural electrification in County Waterford in each of the years 1958-1968; the estimated moneys to be expended in the years 1969 and 1970; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume that the Deputy is seeking information on expenditure on rural electrification by the Electricity Supply Board.

I understand from the board that they do not keep records of the information required in respect of areas corresponding to county boundaries. Two subdivisions of the board's Waterford district correspond to approximately 90 per cent of County Waterford. The following are the figures for total expenditure on all rural distribution networks in these two areas for the years in question and the estimated expenditure for 1969-70:
