Vol. 243 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rate Collectors' Powers.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government if a rate collector has the power to enter the house of a person who is in arrears of rates and take possession of the goods of that house regardless of whether they belong to the person who is responsible for the arrears or to other people.

I would refer the Deputy to section 59 of the Local Government Act, 1941.

Is it in order for a Minister to tell a Deputy, when he asks a question, that he should refer to a particular section of an Act passed years ago? That is an unusual type of answer. It is the first time I have heard that type of answer given in this House.

It will not be the last.
