A proposal to accept a tender for this scheme is under examination in my Department and I will convey a decision on it as soon as possible.
Could the Minister state when he will give a decision as I understand the tender was sent to his Department by Carlow County Council on 23rd June last? Due to the shortage of houses and the demand for housing in the area, will the Minister sanction the tender within the next month, two months or three months?
I told the Deputy "as soon as possible."
"As soon as possible" could mean anything.
It could not be sooner.
I should like to ensure that the people who are in need of housing in this area would be rehoused at the earliest possible date and certainly, since this tender has been with the Department since last June, they are not getting a fair chance.
