Vol. 244 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Birr House Rents.

58.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received representations from the many tenants of Birr Urban District Council in relation to new scale of rents in respect of council houses; if he will consider the views of the tenants and their capacity to pay in relation to this matter; and what he proposes to do to meet the wishes of the tenants in this regard.

I have not received any representations from the tenants of Birr Urban District Council about their rents.

Under the Housing Act, 1966, the management and control of their houses is a matter for the housing authority who may, without reference to me, increase fixed rents by such amounts as they consider appropriate, or the maximum of an approved differential rent scale by not more than 5/- a week in any year.
