Vol. 244 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing Plans.

60.

asked the Minister for Local Government what plans exist for new dwellings in the South Dock and Pembroke East wards of Dublin.

The corporation completed 22 flats in the South Dock Ward in 1969 and have prepared plans for another 20 flats there. They have recently provided 14 flats by conversion of existing houses and are building another six houses in the Pembroke area. They have submitted plans to me for another 72 flats which will be built in an area immediately adjacent to the South Dock Ward.

They also completed a scheme of 168 flats last year within a half mile of the boundary of the South Dock Ward.

No details are available in my Department at present of other proposals which may be in formulation by the housing authority or by private enterprise, for these areas. It is, of course, a matter for the housing authority, in the first instance, to initiate proposals for local authority housing.
