asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when it is proposed to have a smelting plant erected; and if he will take the necessary steps to have it located at or near the port of Galway which is within a short distance of the Tynagh Mines.

I understand that the smelter company have not yet taken a decision to erect a smelter plant in this country or as to where the smelter would be located if it is decided to erect one I understand also that the company are considering various possible locations and that these include the Shannon estuary and the area near the port of Galway.
