asked the Minister for Health the present cost of an ambulance: and the total annual cost of running a maximum used ambulance in (a) Roscommon, (b) Galway and (c) Mayo.

The cost of an approved accident ambulance ranges from £2,313 to £3,017 depending on the model chosen.

Running costs of vehicles excluding depreciation but including drivers' wages for the year ended 31st March, 1969 were as follows:— (a) Roscommon, £4,366 for 2 standard and 2 relief vehicles staffed by 2 permanent and 3 relief drivers; (b) Galway. £20,000 for 8 standard and I relief vehicle staffed by 12 (approx.) permanent drivers; (c) Mayo, £14,500 for 7 vehicles staffed by 6 permanent, 3 part-time and (approx.) 1 relief driver.

These figures do not include any element for nurses who occasionally travel with the ambulances or for clerical staff involved in the operation of the ambulance services.
