Vol. 244 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Water Scheme.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Rockfield, Cahercrinn and Lackenrae, Athenry, County Galway.

There are no proposals in my Department for a group water supply scheme at Lackenrae, Athenry. Separate schemes are proposed for the other areas. The proposed source at Rockfield is a stream which may require treatment and this is at present being investigated by my Department's inspectors.

It is proposed to supply a scheme at Lecarrow, Cahercrinn, from a well. Before this source may be accepted it must be tested for quantity and quality. Galway County Council have agreed to carry out these tests on behalf of the group but have indicated that, because of winter rain which would make it extremely difficult to obtain accurate results, the testing must be deferred until late spring or early summer. Pending the outcome of these tests the scheme cannot proceed.
