(Cavan) asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each of the grades including grades approximating to each grade of secretary, deputy secretary, assistant secretary, deputy assistant secretary, principal officer, assistant principal officer, administrative officer, higher executive officer, executive officer, staff officer, clerical officer and clerk typist, in the general service grades of the civil service, the numbers employed on the 1st January in each of the ten years 1961 to 1970 inclusive.

NOTES:
(i) The figures are taken from the Civil Service Census which relates to the first working day of the calendar year. The 1970 Census is at present being compiled and, accordingly, comparable figures for 1st January, 1970 are not available
(ii) In the Census different grades in the same salary range are bulked. For example, of the 25 officers shown in the 1 January, 1969 column under the heading of Deputy Secretary, 5 belonged to that grade and the remainder consisted of a variety of officers, e.g. Commissioners.
(iii) Deputy Assistant Secretaries are included with Assistant Secretaries. 5 were serving on 1 January 1969.
