Vol. 244 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Plans for St. Enda's.

65.

asked the Minister for Finance what are the future plans in respect of St. Enda's; whether his Department have decided on any particular use for the building; the cost of upkeep since it was taken over by the State; and whether any voluntary organisations have made proposals.

In accordance with the wish of the trustees to the deed under which the late Senator Miss M. Pearse settled St. Enda's and the surrounding grounds on the State arrangements are being made for the handing over of the property at a formal ceremony in April next. It is hoped to have announced on that occasion the Government's proposals for the future use of the property.

Suggestions as to how the property might be used have been made by a number of organisations.

The cost of upkeep of the property including caretaking since the death of Senator Miss Pearse is about £3,000.

Did the Parliamentary Secretary say it was Miss Pearse who gave it to the nation?

That is correct.

Is that correct?

Yes. You may remember there was some difficulty about the will of the late Pádraic Pearse.

In fact there was an original will which but for the difficulty would have transferred it to the nation earlier. She carried out the wishes of her brother.
