Vol. 244 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foreign Industrial Operatives.

105.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware of the number of foreign operatives engaged on industrial sites; if so, the number of these operatives so engaged; and if he will consider making available to trade unions a register of such foreign operatives.

There are no restrictions on the movement of workers, either way, between this country and Britain.

As regards workers to whom the Aliens Order, 1946, applies, trade unions are normally consulted about application for employment permits.

I do not consider that the compilation of a register, as suggested in the question, would be justified.
