Vol. 244 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Industries.

121.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if in view of his statement in the Dáil regarding the establishment of some major industries in Mayo, he will state (1) where such industries will be established, (2) what is the nature of the industries and (3) when work will start on them.

I regret that I am still not in a position to make any announcement on this subject.

Is the Minister aware that the vice-chairman of the National Farmers' Association, Fr. Brady, said that he gave the west ten years to live if something is not done? When is the Minister going to do something about it?

I am not aware of what the Deputy is speaking about.

The Minister must not read the newspapers.

I read the important things in the newspapers.

122.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the very urgent need for having industries established in all towns in Mayo so that employment may be provided for the people there and to prevent further decline in the population.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies given previously to similar questions by him. As the Deputy is aware, the Government provide very attractive incentives for the promotion of industrial development in all areas and it is up to industrialists to avail of these facilities and for local interests to encourage private enterprise to set up industries in their own areas.
