Vol. 244 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Expenditure on Publications.

125.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of (a) himself and (b) his Parliamentary Secretary the amount of money spent in respect of daily and weekly papers and books and magazines for their use in respect of the year ended 31st December, 1969.

Expenditure chargeable to the Vote for Industry and Commerce amounting to £32 13s 11d was incurred in the year ended 31st December, 1969 on newspapers purchased for my personal use. No such expenditure was incurred in respect of the Parliamentary Secretary.

On the basis of what the Minister has not seen in the newspapers during to-day's Question Time, will he please increase the sum a little?

As I told the Deputy, I only read the important things in the newspapers.

Is the Minister aware that he and the Minister for External Affairs are the two Ministers who spend least on newspapers and magazines?

I am not so aware.

It is a fact.
