Vol. 244 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Membership of EEC.

43.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether he intends to visit other Governments of the EEC before June of this year in pursuance of this country's application to join the EEC.

As the House is aware, I have already had discussions on EEC matters, including Ireland's application for membership of the Communities, with the Foreign Ministers of Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Italy and the Federal Republic of Germany. I have also had talks with the British Foreign Secretary and the British Minister responsible for European Affairs.

During the present week I am visiting Luxembourg and The Hague for the same purpose. I propose to continue my visits to the member and applicant countries and I shall continue to keep in close touch on this matter with all countries concerned, both through the Irish diplomatic missions and by personal visits as circumstances dictate.
