Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - FCA Pay.

123.

asked the Minister for Defence what deductions are made from the pay of members of the FCA who are students when they volunteer for week-end military duty.

With effect from Monday, 9th instant, periods of service in An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil not exceeding twenty-one consecutive days have been excepted from the provisions of the Social Welfare Acts, and insurance contributions are no longer required in respect of such periods. Previously, the employee's social welfare insurance contribution—10/9d— had to be deducted if the insurance card had not already been stamped by another employer for the insurance week within which a period of duty fell.

There have been no other deductions in the circumstances to which the Deputy's question relates.
