Vol. 244 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Child Guidance Teams.

20.

asked the Minister for Health the total number of child guidance teams at present available in the Republic; and the total number needed to meet the recommendation of the Commission of Inquiry on Mental Illness that there should be at least one team per 100,000 of the population.

The number of child guidance teams at present available is seven. Taking the population as approximately 2.9 millions the number of teams required to meet the commission's recommendations is 29.

Shortage of qualified staff is a major impediment in the development of this service. Measures to deal with this problem are at present under review.
