Vol. 244 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Redundant Workers.

92.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the grave concern caused to the residents of Roscommon by the announcement that a firm (name supplied) is to close down; and what immediate steps he proposes to take to ensure that the employees of the factory are not made redundant.

93.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement about the redundancy of 100 workers on 21st March, 1970, at a company (name supplied) in County Roscommon.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 92 and 93 together.

I am fully aware of the concern which the announcement in question has caused. For my part I took all practicable steps in an endeavour to secure the continued operation of the firm involved. I appreciate that the situation is serious for the workers concerned and I have asked the Industrial Development Authority as a matter of urgency to seek to attract a suitable new industry to Roscommon.
