Vol. 246 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Insurance Company Licences.

49.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce how many insurance companies have applied to his Department for a licence to operate (a) fire insurance, (b) motor insurance and (c) life insurance; and if he intends to grant a licence to them to operate in this country.

One company has applied for a licence for fire insurance, and another has applied for a licence for both fire insurance and motor insurance. I propose in the latter case to grant the licence subject to lodgment with the High Court of the statutory deposit. The other application is still under consideration.

I have also received an incomplete application for licences for fire and motor insurance which is apparently not being pursued.

I have no application before me for a licence to conduct life assurance business.
