Vol. 246 No. 10

Written Answers. - Mail Delivery Delays.

158.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why delivery of letters has become erratic and unpredictable; if he is aware that letters posted at the same place and time addressed to the same address are frequently delivered on different dates with delays of three to four days in some cases; and if, having regard to the serious inconvenience and loss caused to industry and commerce by delays in delivery, he will make a statement on and take remedial action in the matter.

I am aware that recently some correspondence posted in Dublin has occasionally suffered delay but not to the extent suggested. The delay, which has been confined to a relatively small proportion of the correspondence handled, has been caused mainly by staffing difficulties. Steps have already been taken to remedy the situation.
