Vol. 246 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Stoneware Pipes.

11.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will take steps to ensure that there is a greater use of stoneware pipes manufactured by a firm (name supplied) in all sewerage schemes in preference to concrete pipes; and if a conference can be arranged with this in view between his Department and the Department of Local Government so that this firm and all other firms engaged in the manufacture of stoneware pipes may have a ready market for their products which will give increased employment in and result in expansion of this industry.

I am not in a position to ensure a greater use of stoneware pipes in sewerage schemes. I understand that local authorities make their own decisions as to the type of pipes to be used in such cases, and I could not urge preference for the products of one Irish firm against those of other Irish firms.
