Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Housing.

64.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of houses both local authority and private provided in Cork city for each year from 1964 to date; and the total number of applicants at present on the housing list of Cork Corporation.

65.

asked the Minister for Local Government the estimated number of houses both public and private needed to be built in Cork city and suburbs during the next five years to eliminate the serious shortage of housing in Cork city.

66.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state separately the amount of serviced and unserviced land at present owned by Cork Corporation for the provision of housing; the number of houses scheduled for building on this land; and when this land will be so used.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 64, 65 and 66 together.

The total number of local authority and grant aided dwellings provided in Cork city in each of the financial years from 1964-65 to 1969-70, inclusive, was 244, 361, 562, 491, 654 and 840 respectively. Information on the number of approved applicants at present on the corporation's housing list is not available in my Department. The corporation's assessment of the total housing needs for the period up to 31st March 1972 was 4,375 of which it was estimated that 2,875 would fall to be provided by the local authority. Information in relation to the years beyond that date is not yet available as the statutory assessment for the next five year period has not been made by the corporation. Separate figures of housing needs in the suburbs of the Cork city administrative area are not available in my Department.

In their own current building programme the corporation have work in progress on 996 dwellings; 149 dwellings are at tender stage and 1,389 further dwellings will be provided. The corporation have acquired almost 600 acres of land and are in the process of acquiring 400 acres more. I do not know how much of these lands is serviced, the number of dwellings to be provided on them, or when building on the various parcels of land will be commenced.
