Vol. 246 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Electricity Supply.

5.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what steps, if any, are being taken by his Department to rectify the low voltage electricity which is prevalent in the Dublin north west area.

I am informed by the ESB that they are not aware that low voltage electricity supply is prevalent in north west Dublin. In some areas, however, supply may be below standard at times due to the above average increase in domestic consumption in the district.

In reply to a Dáil question on 13th November, 1969, I outlined the major works which the board had undertaken to improve supply in the Finglas area of north west Dublin. These works are scheduled for completion shortly and thereafter only normal mains improvements will be necessary in that area.

If individual consumers in other parts of north west Dublin find supply to be unsatisfactory, they should report the matter to the board's group engineer in Coolock who will have it investigated and corrected, if necessary. I would be glad to hear of any such complaints.

The Minister says he is not aware of low voltage on the north side of the city but he then proceeds to outline in detail areas in which there is low voltage.

I am very much aware of the problem in Finglas and the necessary remedial works are practically completed by the ESB in the area. This problem arose because of expanding prosperity in the area which has led to more jobs and, hence, greater use of domestic appliances.

Was the Minister aware of the high voltage at Howth the other evening?
