Vol. 247 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

31.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state the priority in respect of rural electrification schemes in West Galway and when each scheme will be completed.

I am informed by the ESB that the following rural areas in west Galway remain to be supplied under the rural electrification post-development scheme. They fall into two groups in which the programme is proceeding independently. In the Galway group the canvass is at present under way in the Kilkieran rural area and it is hoped to start construction work during the present year. When this area has been completed, the construction crew will move to the Roundstone area and from there to the other outstanding areas in the following order: Ballyconneely, Letterfrack, Cleggan and Lettermore. It is not possible at this stage to say when work in these areas will be completed.

The Leenane and Cornamona rural areas in the north of west Galway are included in the board's Castlebar group. These rural areas will be canvassed simultaneously in about nine months time and construction will commence about six months later.

32.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when the ESB supply will be extended to Kilgarvan, County Kerry.

I am informed by the ESB that the Kilgarvan rural area is scheduled for recanvass under the board's planned post-development scheme in 1971. During the canvass all unsupplied householders will be contacted and given an opportunity of accepting supply.
