Vol. 247 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Economic Projections.

27.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the Irish Government submitted projections of long-term growth to OECD in connection with that organisation's study The Outlook for Economic Growth; and, if so, whether he will publish the data submitted to OECD.

The answer to the first part of the question is "yes". The projections submitted were of the growth of supply, as required for the OECD exercise which is being conducted in two stages—supply and demand. The results must be regarded as provisional pending the completion of work now in hands on demand projections. When this work is completed consideration will be given to the question of publishing the results of both stages of the exercise.

Would the Minister not agree that, since this was the first long-term estimate prepared by the Government and in view of its importance, the supply side should and could be prepared at this stage in more detail than in the OECD study? Could not there be a breakdown of the output side between the different sections of the economy?

As I have already indicated, I am not of that opinion.

Not of the opinion of the report?
