Vol. 247 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Lands.

33.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the existence of fragmented farms in Gortacurra and Lackafinna townlands, at Cross, Clare-morris, County Mayo; and if he will, in the interests of utility and harmony, take steps to have the rearrangement of land in the area expedited.

I am aware that there is a need for rearrangement and consolidation of fragmented holdings in the areas referred to by the Deputy. In fact, the Land Commission have been endeavouring for some time to accumulate a pool of land which would facilitate the formulation of a scheme for rearrangement in these townlands.

There are at present three properties, aggregating 63 acres, in the possession of the Land Commission in the locality. It is hoped that proposals can be formulated, during the current year, for the disposal of these lands in a scheme for the rearrangement and enlargement of at least some of the holdings.

In the meanwhile, the acquisition of further lands to facilitate rearrangement of these townlands is receiving attention by the Land Commission.
