asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether any investigation is under way at Departmental level to learn which industries will undergo very severe competition; and whether he anticipates any increase in unemployment arising from the next 10 per cent tariff cut.

The Free Trade Area Agreement provides that in the year commencing 1st July, 1970, a review may be carried out by the Irish Government to determine which industries have encountered or are threatened with difficulties as a result of the operation of the agreement. Preliminary work in preparation for the review is being carried out in my Department. I do not expect any increase in unemployment as a result of the next tariff cut.
