Vol. 247 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Branch Strength.

64.

asked the Minister for Justice whether there has been any increase in the size of the Special Branch over the past two years; whether any criteria are followed in appointments to the Special Branch; and whether any promotion procedure is followed.

The Garda Síochána is a uniformed force with provision for members who carry out detective duties in plain clothes.

It would be contrary to established practice and it would not be in the public interest to give information as to the way in which the discharge of detective duties is organised or the numbers who may be engaged on those duties.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
