Vol. 247 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourist Traffic.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the number of tourists that came into this country in April, 1969, April 1970, May 1969, May 1970, June 1969 and to the most recent date in June 1970.

The particulars requested by the Deputy are not available. Estimates relating to the numbers of visitors, including tourists, who come to this country are available only for calendar years.

Has the Parliamentary Secretary any information to suggest that there has been any falling off in the number of tourists coming into this country over the past few months?

The average annual figures are published in the Irish Statistical Bulletin. An estimate of the number of visits in 1969 by persons resident outside the State will be published in the next few weeks. I am sure the Deputy will be able to get the information there.

You can look at the roads for the number of GB cars that are to be seen this year.

I see many of them around. The Deputy is more than welcome to come to Dún Laoghaire any time and have a look at them.

(Interruptions.)

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be able to tell us the number of cancellations that have reached CIE in the last three months?

That is a separate question.

It does not arise on the question.

It is very pertinent nevertheless. We have 17 coaches standing by idle in Limerick, coaches that were booked three months ago.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say if he has had any discussions about the number of bookings that have been cancelled here?

I have had no such discussions.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary intend to have any?
