Vol. 247 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - River Pollution.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received any recent report on the pollution of the River Blackwater, Cork; and if he will state what measures, if any, he proposes to take to remedy the position.

There is no information available to my Department which would suggest that action on my part would be appropriate at this time. If, however, any of the local authorities concerned put forward proposals designed to remedy any local problems for which they could be deemed to be responsible they can rest assured that I will consider them sympathetically.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received any complaints regarding the appalling condition of the River Liffey, especially at low tide; and whether he will concern himself with the question of remedying the position.

While I have not received direct complaints on this subject, I am aware that the position is not satisfactory. I would, however, draw the Deputy's attention to my replies to Questions Nos. 64 and 65 of the 4th June this year and No. 79 of the 18th June this year about the measures being taken to remedy the general position regarding pollution in the Dublin area.
