Vol. 248 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Garda Patrol.

41.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of Garda patrol cars in Dublin city; to what stations they are assigned; and if he considers this number to be adequate.

The number of cars ordinarily available for patrol work in the Dublin Metropolitan Area is 30, and in addition, there are 55 motorcycles. There are 18 cars attached to the detective division which may be diverted to a trouble-spot, as occasion requires.

It would be contrary to established practice and the efficient performance of police duties to say where the cars are exactly located.

The question of increasing the number of cars is under examination and proposals in that regard are being made to the Minister for Finance for the necessary sanction.
