asked the Minister for Education the reason for the decision recently communicated to County Cork Vocational Education Committee that only the equivalent of 258 whole-time teachers could be employed for the year 1970-71; and if, in view of the upset and inconvenience which will be caused if such a decision is enforced, he will have the entire matter reconsidered.

The notification to the County Cork Vocational Education Committee of an allocation of teachers for 1970-71 followed an examination by the Department, in consultation with committees generally, of the pupilteacher ratios in vocational schools. Committees were informed at the same time that, if serious difficulties were anticipated in individual cases, the allocation would be reconsidered on the basis of an examination in depth of the position in each school. Such an examination is now in progress in the case of County Cork.
