Vol. 248 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Northern Ireland Reforms.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he has any information on the progress of the reforms undertaken by the British Government to be carried out in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Apart from the fact that the promised reforms are the subject of public controversy in the Six Counties and of constant report and comment by the communications media of Ireland, Britain and many other countries, the Government and I are kept in close touch with developments.

I have repeatedly stressed my interest and the interest of the Government in the rapid progress of the implementation of the reforms in the north.

Is any definite information available which would show what stage some of the reforms have reached or whether any specific timetable has been laid down for implementing them?

There is information available indicating what stages some of the reforms have reached. I am not aware of any specific timetable. However, I shall be referring to this matter, perhaps, in more detail, later on.

With whom is the Taoiseach in touch about these reforms— the Stormont Government or the Westminister Government?

That is a separate question.

We are keeping in touch with Wesminster, mainly.
