Vol. 248 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Harbour Improvements.

52.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the importance of Dún Laoghaire harbour as a fishery harbour, the increase in landing of fish there and the need for extra facilities, he will state what additional facilities it is proposed to provide at the harbour and the amount of money it is intended to spend on these improvements.

For the benefit of fishermen, Traders' Wharf has been re-surfaced and all-night lighting has been provided; the water supply has been improved and other minor works have been carried out.

It is intended to provide new toilets shortly at a cost of £3,500 and modernisation of the lighting system is under consideration. Arrangements are being made to make sites available to the Dublin Bay Fishermen's Co-operative for oil storage tanks, a filleting station and an ice plant. Estimates of the cost of these improvements are not available.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when these works will be carried out?

Work on the toilets will start very, very shortly.

I mean the ice plant and so on.

The ice plant will be on the site of the present toilets and things will have to be taken in order.
