Vol. 248 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Land Prices.

58.

asked the Minister for Lands what is the highest price paid for land for forestry purposes during the past 12 months.

The price paid by my Department for land suitable for afforestation purposes is determined by reference both to the potentialities of the land for timber production and the costs likely to be incurred in developing the land for forestry purposes. For any particular block, the total price is the aggregate of values so ascertained for a variety of site conditions within the total area. In some cases additional elements may enter into the price. In these circumstances it would be misleading to quote figures which emerged in deals affecting particular blocks. In very favourable site conditions prices may exceed £30 per acre.
