Vol. 248 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Vocational School.

60.

asked the Minister for Education when he expects to be in a position to agree the schedule of accommodation for the new vocational school in Tallaght, County Dublin.

The Schedule of accommodation and other arrangements connected with the proposed new post-primary school complex in Tallaght has been the subject of discussions with the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee and the religious orders concerned. It is hoped to complete these discussions in the next few months.

Could the Minister say when the last discussions took place?

I am afraid I have not got that information.

Is it not a fact that the schedule of accommodation has been in the Minister's Department since last Easter and the vocational education committee have had no reply since? The architects cannot prepare the drawings until the schedule of accommodation is decided on.

A number of matters had to be considered and agreed upon, in so far as it is possible to get agreement. As I say, the issues involved will be discussed shortly.

Is the Minister aware that in Tallaght at the moment there are 11 prefabs along with the ordinary school? They are in a really bad state for a proper vocational school there. Is it fair that they should be held up for several months on a simple matter like the schedule of accommodation?

It is not as simple as all that.

I asked to see the Minister——

I will be glad to see the Deputy at any time.

——and when I tried to make an arrangement I was not able to do so.

There is no problem.

It was the Minister's private secretary.

I will see the Deputy this evening, if he wishes.
