In 1968-69 there were 617 national schools conducted by religious orders and 3,643 national schools conducted by lay staffs. In the same school year there were 512 secondary schools conducted by religious orders or diocesan clergy and 86 were conducted by lay staffs. All of the 241 second level vocational schools were, of course, conducted by lay staffs.
