Vol. 248 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Meath Industry.

65.

andMr. Fox asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of any proposal for the establishment of an industry at Nobber, County Meath.

There are no proposals at present before the Industrial Development Authority for the establishment of an industry at Nobber. The Government provides generous incentives towards the establishment and development of industry in all areas. It is primarily a matter for the promoter of an industrial undertaking to choose its location and local interests should do their best to encourage promoters to set up industries in their own areas. I can assure the Deputies that any sound proposals for the establishment of industry in Nobber will receive the full support of my Department and of the Industrial Development Authority.

Is the Minister aware that his colleague, the Minister for Health, who, with Deputy Conlon and myself, represents that area of County Meath, promised at a meeting of local people in Nobber that he would put a factory in Nobber?

If my colleague, the Minister for Health, promised that, the Deputy has nothing to worry about. I am unaware of the fulfilment of that promise. I know that the Tánaiste is forever harassing me on behalf of the people of Nobber in that regard.

I can assume from what the Minister said that the Minister for Health, in addition to his Department, has a separate section which appears to deal with the allocation of factories——

The Deputy is raising a separate matter.

I assured all Deputies that any sound proposal for the establishment of industries would get every attention from my Department.
