Vol. 248 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Pension Increases.

105.

Mr. J. Lenehan

asked the Minister for Local Government when it may be expected that retirement pension increases granted in the 1969 Budget to employees of local authorities are likely to be paid by Mayo County Council.

The payment of authorised pension increases is a matter for the local authorities concerned. I authorised all local authorities, including Mayo County Council, by circular letter dated 24th November, 1969, to pay the increases referred to with effect from 1st August, 1969.

Mr. J. Lenehan

Is it the position that the Minister cannot take any steps to compel this discredited body, of which unfortunately I happen to be a member, to carry out its duty and to pay these people who have been awaiting payment for a long time?

It is some time since the authorisation was sent out.

Mr. J. Lenehan

Nothing has been done about the matter.
