Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Faith Healer's Activities.

8.

asked the Minister for Health if he has any observations to make concerning the attendance of large numbers of persons at the clinic of the faith healer (person named), with particular reference to the recent death of a person (name supplied) as reported.

I have some general observations to make.

There are, of course, certain disabilities imposed by law on persons who practise medicine without being registered as medical practitioners. Subject to those disabilities it is not illegal to practise faith healing. Neither is it illegal for a person to attend a faith healer.

Persons who attend faith healers, however, do so at their own risk. My strong advice to anyone who is ill is to look to his family doctor, or the specialist or hospital to which he is referred, for care and treatment. In this way he can be sure of obtaining all the advantages which accrue from modern medicine.
