Vol. 249 No. 1

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Epileptic Association.

25.

asked the Minister for Health if his Department gives a grant to the Irish Epileptic Association; and whether he will make available further moneys to this society to enable expan-sion of the services provided by the society.

It was agreed in January, 1969, to contribute for a period of one year half the salary of a social worker to be employed by the association, the claim for salary recoupment to be made quarterly by the association to the National Rehabilitation Board. I understand that the association are proceeding with the appointment of a social worker and I will of course be prepared to honour the undertaking as to grant, subject to the claims being made in the manner I have mentioned.

While I could not accept as a general principle that grants of this nature should be made in large amounts or over indefinite periods, I am prepared to examine, in consultation with the National Rehabilitation Board, any claim for a grant related to a definite project which may be put forward by the association.

Am I to take it that the total contribution from the Department of Health is half the wages of one social worker?

That is right.
