Vol. 249 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Taxation.

94.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will be prepared to set up a select Committee of the Dáil or a commission of inquiry to review in depth and report on income taxation.

The Deputy is no doubt aware that an exhaustive and detailed examination of income taxation in all its aspects was carried out by the Commission on Income Taxation which was appointed by the Minister for Finance in February, 1957, and which submitted seven reports to him in the period up to March, 1962.

The commission's recommendations were examined and the Government's proposals in relation to them set out in three White Papers published in 1959, 1961 and 1963.

In view of the comprehensive nature of the commission's examination I am satisfied that a further inquiry into income taxation of the type suggested by the Deputy is not called for at present.
