asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement about the intentions of the Government concerning the various anti-oil pollution measures advocated by the Inter-Departmental Working Group on Oil Pollution in their Report issued on 21st October, 1970.

As indicated in the press statement issued on the 21st October, 1970, by the Minister for Transport and Power the Government have accepted the recommendations of the Inter-Departmental working group on oil pollution that responsibility for oil pollution clearance, promotion of the necessary legislation and the making of interim arrangements to deal with the effects of oil pollution should be assigned to the Minister for Local Government and that responsibility for initiating action in a particular area be placed on the coastal local authorities concerned, with outside assistance as necessary.
