Vol. 249 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions Oral Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

22.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will state in relation to the proposed amendments of the Redundancy Payments Act (a) the likely date of the publication of the amending Bill and (b) the number of tribunal decisions and the aggregated lump sum payments affected by the High Court judgment mentioned in the Government Information Bureau statement of October, 1969.

I hope that the text of the Redundancy Payments Bill, 1970 will be circulated to Deputies early next month.

The number of tribunal decisions affected by the High Court judgment to which the Deputy refers is 13 and the aggregated lump sum payments to the workers concerned amount to £1,483 19s 4d.

The Government were very busy on other things over the first half of this year but, in view of the seriousness of the particular matter, surely it should have been possible since October of last year to have that Bill introduced, as was promised at that particular time?

We will have it next month and a lot of the time of this House was wasted by other people and not by the Government.

I am not talking about the time of the House. I am talking about the time of the country which the Minister and his colleagues wasted.
