Vol. 249 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions Oral Answers. - Meath Planning Appeal.

50.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has yet made a decision on the planning appeal submitted by the tenants of the Belcourt Estate, Navan, County Meath.

An order determining the appeal by the residents of Belcourt estate, Navan against the decision of the Meath County Council to grant permission to the Boyne Valley Utility Society for the erection of ten houses at Blackcastle, County Meath was made on the 11th instant.

Is the Minister able to tell me, first of all, if it is true that a proviso is put into the appeal that 9ft. cupressus trees must be planted, that they must be 9ft. at the time of planting——

Christmas trees?

Can the Minister tell me where they can be obtained? The proviso states that they shall be planted. Who is expected to do it?

The person who carries out the work must do the planting.

Is the Minister asking that 9ft. cupressus trees must be planted?

It is a very praiseworthy thing. I am very anxious to have this type of planting done.

Are those trees available and can they transplanted?

Yes, semi-mature trees. I have seen them much higher than that.

So have I but they had been growing for many years.

They can easily be transplanted. I have seen it done. I have seen 20ft. trees transplanted.
