Vol. 249 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions Oral Answers. - Kerry Sewerage Scheme.

59.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will investigate the necessity of a sewerage scheme for Fenit, County Kerry in view of the great urgency associated with the matter especially since the district is a well established seaside resort and CIE runs special excursions to the area during the summer months.

On the latest information available to me this scheme is not regarded by the local authority as having a high priority on their water and sewerage programme.

Is the Minister aware that this scheme is No. 1 on the local authority's priority list?

I think the Deputy should check again. I understand it stands at No. 9.

I am giving the Minister the information I got from the county manager.

On 11th November, according to my information from the Kerry County Council, the Fenit water and sewerage scheme was No. 9 on a list comprising schemes to the total cost of approximately £540,000.

I am asking the Minister to have this case investigated specially. This is a seaside resort. CIE run excursions from Cork daily during the summer. There are no public toilets in Fenit and CIE had to lock their trains so that people could not use their toilets.

The question of priorities is a matter for the local authority. The Deputy is a member of the county council and he should bring this matter forward there. If he checks his information with the local authority he will find that this scheme is No. 9 on the list.
