Vol. 249 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Wages.

23.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries (a) the agricultural wages fixed for the year in which the employment allowance was introduced, (b) what percentage the allowance was of agricultural wages, (c) the agricultural wages in November, 1970 and (d) what percentage the employment allowance is of the November, 1970 agricultural wage (weekly).

There was no statutory provision for the regulation of rates of wages of agricultural workers in 1934-35, the year the employment allowance was introduced. The employment allowance has been £17 per year for each eligible male worker since 1953. The current minimum rates of wages payable to agricultural workers range from £14 5s to £15.
