Vol. 249 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workmen's Compensation Claim.

34.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if former employees of a firm (name supplied) who are claimants under the Workmen's Compensation Acts will receive the full award due to them in respect of their injuries.

The position of the former employees of the company mentioned by the Deputy who are claimants under the Workmen's Compensation Acts has been under special consideration by the Government and in the special circumstances of this case the Government have decided that an ex-gratia payment should be made from State funds. This payment is to make good the amount by which the realised assets of the company may prove inadequate to meet the claims of those workers as settled by the court and accepted by the liquidator. It is hoped that payment of the sums so settled will be made to those claimants fairly soon.
